Happy Halloween!

Today is a great day, Halloween! It kicks off the fall party season with a bang and starts the real roll toward Thanksgiving and Christmas. To help celebrate, here’s a baker’s dozen images of sexy ladies dressed up for Halloween. All images were pulled from the /r/SluttyHalloween/ subreddit, which you should definitely follow to see sexy babes in costumes all year long.

Friday Fox – Lucy Liu

Each Friday I feature a baker’s dozen images of a 40-something lady who “gets my motor running.”

Lucy Liu

Lucy Liu is this week’s Over Forty Friday Fox. Lucy continues the trend of actresses who starred in Charlie’s Angels (Drew Barrymore) or Kill Bill (Uma Thurman). Overall, Lucy has starred in some of my favorite films. Of course the Kill Bill series is on that list. However, she also had a starring role as a dominatrix in the totally underrated revenge flick, Payback. If you haven’t seen that one, I highly recommend giving it a watch. The other underrated film that Lucy features in is Lucky Number Slevin. Yep, you guessed it, another revenge film you should watch with your eyeballs. Lately Lucy has been starring on TV in the awesome series Elementary as a female Watson to Jonny Lee Miller’s Sherlock Holmes. Any time Lucy is on screen, I’m going to stop down and check it out. She is a terrific actress who has made great choices. They certainly didn’t have gorgeous women like Lucy at my high school!

I’m back in the office after spending Monday through Wednesday at a conference. There is always a transition period involved when I return from a conference. Does that happen to you too?

Seriously, I spend most of the first morning back doing totally useless stuff, like chatting with coworkers about the conference, shuffling my mail around on my desk, and generally being unproductive. I’m talking about being more unproductive than during a normal work day. By the time lunch rolled around today I had done absolutely nothing worthwhile.

This afternoon has been a little better. I’ve done some solid work to get caught up on emails and the aforementioned physical mail sitting on my desk. No matter how you slice it, I’m nowhere near productive on the 1st day back from a conference as I am on a normal work day. Is it just me?

Returning from vacation works the same way, doesn’t it? You get back and have to ease into the normal routine. I’m hoping tomorrow will be a flurry of activity. I’ve got too much real work piling up on my desk to have another lazy day in the office!

Speed Racer

I recently sat down and watched Speed Racer, a film by the Wachowski Brothers, starring Emile Hirsch. My quick and dirty review is – the visuals are amazing, but that’s about all this flick has going for it!

Whenever I attend a conference, The Wife assumes that it’s all fun and games. She has this vision of the typical conference being a vacation. She couldn’t be farther from the truth!

Usually, no matter what conference I attend, I would much rather be at work then at the conference. It’s hard work attending a conference. Long hours, constantly having to be friendly and “on,” networking with everyone you can, trying to carve out some time to visit the exhibitors and learn about new and exciting products or services, being away from home, sleeping in a hotel bed that is nowhere near as comfortable as yours, eating banquet food, feet hurting from standing in a booth all day, or just trying to stay in touch with the office so you don’t return to massive fires are a few of the inconveniences of attending a conference.

Don’t get me wrong, I think conferences are wonderful tools to stay up to speed with industry or even to scope out new and exciting opportunities. I just come home from them more tired than I would a typical day in the office.

The Wife refuses to understand how difficult attending a conference can be. Oh well, maybe one of these days I’ll figure out how to take her along, so she can see that it isn’t just a three day binge of prime cut steaks, good scotch, and booth babes. Yes, there is some of that, but usually it’s at the end of a 9 hour day walking around an exhibit hall glad handing everyone.

Oklahoma State University Tour

As mentioned, I took The Girl to Oklahoma State University for a campus tour. While not one of her top 5 schools, it also wasn’t one of her bottom 5 schools either. We used the OSU tour as a way of dipping our toes into the world of college tours. We wanted to experience a tour with low pressure (i.e. not a school she was super high on) so that we could learn the process, find out what questions to ask, and to build a baseline for expectations.

First, let me say that Oklahoma State is a very beautiful school. I don’t know if it was just because we hit on a picture perfect day, but the building are classic brick, and the whole campus screams “college.” Foliage was in bloom, birds were singing, students milling about everywhere, it was a great day to visit.

Instead of creating a wall of text reviewing our tour of Oklahoma State, I’m going to do a Top/Bottom list. Here goes:

Friday Fox – Uma Thurman

Each Friday I feature a baker’s dozen images of a 40-something lady who “gets my motor running.”

Uma Thurman

Uma Thurman is incredibly talented, as well as being incredibly hot. Who doesn’t remember her from her breakout role in Dangerous Liaisons? However, for me, Uma-fandom came when I first caught sight of her in the cheesy flick Johnny Be Good, where she costarred with one of my absolute favorite actors, Anthony Michael Hall. Either way, those two films were just the tip of the iceberg for Uma. She has consistently starred ins some of the biggest films Hollywood has churned out – Pulp Fiction, the Kill Bill series, Be Cool, Sweet and Lowdown, and more. Uma is picky about her jobs and it pays off. She always seems to fit every role perfectly, she embodies her characters like few others. Uma has to be one of my favorite actresses. They certainly didn’t have gorgeous women like Uma at my high school!

Today my boss informed me that she’s registered me to attend a conference next week. She registered me like a month ago, but forgot to tell me. Bitch! Fortunately its local, but it would have been nice to be able to plan for this interruption in my routine.

The down side is that it’s about an hour away from my house (close to 2 hours during rush hour) and the company won’t put up for a hotel. Do I splurge and stay nearby? Or, do I just make the drive each day?

It’s Monday through Wednesday, with the big cocktail party/networking event taking place at 7:30 pm on Wednesday night. I’m calling it now, I’m not getting home until midnight Wednesday night. Of course sessions start at 7:30 am each day, which should make the whole thing loads of fun.

Should be a good time – not. I’m just hoping the banquet chicken is actually decent. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

College Tours Begin

This week I’m taking The Girl on her first real campus tour, to Oklahoma State University (OSU).

oklahoma-state

She picked OSU to tour first because it’s towards the bottom of her list of potential schools. This is our test run to see how the whole process works. So far, I’m pretty impressed! From the photos, the campus looks beautiful and the academic package for the degree she’s interested in is top notch.
